Local CPAN

For some reason, Perl is being forgotten by companies - irrespective of the power of the langurage - and preference for Python.

You can use the following command to download CPAN to build a local CPAN repository.

$ cd $HOME
$ mkdir CPAN
$ /usr/bin/rsync -av --delete cpan-rsync.perl.org::CPAN ./CPAN
.  . ..

Once it is downloaded, you need to change the urllist to search this directory. It needs to be a complete URL - otherwise, it will not be accepted.

cpan[1]> o conf pushy_https 0
cpan[2]> o conf urllist push $HOME/CPAN

World Cup 2022 Is Almost Here

Ever since it won the right to host the 2022 World Cup, Qatar has been a controversial choice.

The Persian Gulf country’s scorching climate made it impossible to hold the competition during the usual summer slot, so it was switched to November and December -- just when national leagues are in full swing. Deprived of their star players, domestic competitions will have to shut down for up to six weeks.

Investigations continue into how Qatar, a tiny nation of 3 million people with no soccer pedigree, managed to win a secret vote to become host.

Human-rights groups have decried the treatment of foreign workers building the stadiums and accommodation for visiting fans. The government says the event is a catalyst for improving its labor laws.

England are in the Semi-Finals . . and ImaginaNaCopa is in the lead

England are in the Semi-Finals, and have gone made with World Cup fever . . perhaps "it" will be coming home. There is a talk of a petition for a holiday on Monday if they win . . . but there is a very apt phrase for this: "don't count your chickens until they're hatched".

Croatia didn't come to the World Cup to lose, and it will be a contest of how much each team wants the World Cup - and obviously, which team has more skills. Let's see this evening.

In relation to the Score Prediction game, ImaginaNaCopa has been in the lead for some time and may well win. He lost some ground recently due to predicting that England would lose on penalties ... 🙂 1958Dragons is the only contender, but Bridste has come out of nowhere to challenge for the lead.

. . . . one game away from the Semi Finals

The image below sums up England at the World Cup in 2018. Nobody expected them to go so far, but they could go further. Most of the "favourites" didn't qualify, or have been knocked out, so the World Cup is there for the taking  . . .. but England are England  . ...  it will be a stressful game to watch today. I predict Penalties.

England Are Through to the Quarter Finals!

It was a very scrappy game, but England are through to the Quarter Finals.

It would have been much easier if they didn't take their eyes off of the game, and let Columbia equalise in Injury Time. However, no England game is without its drama and punishing of the fans, so the game went into Extra Time and then Penalties. I have to say that during Extra Time, l could no longer watch  . .. and 10 mins after that .. neither could my son. It was left to my daughter to relay the action on the pitch to us  . .. we couldn't take any more.

I found that England had gone through via screaming from the houses in the area, and a shout from Naveen 🙂

We need these "guys" for any penalties that may come up during the game with Sweden (Quarter Finals).
